Lowell Eugene Brandenburg, 75, died on April 1, 2010. He
was married to his loving wife of 56 years, Kathy Pless Brandenburg. He was born
in Winchester, the son of the late Leon and Virginia Dunn Brandenburg. He was
preceded in death by a grand daughter, Katie Lynn Brandenburg. He received a
Bachelors degree from UK in Geology. He retired from the US Airforce as a Lt.
Colonel and was a B52 pilot during Vietnam. After leaving the military he worked
as a geologist with the KY Dept. of Highways. He later served as the first
commissioner of the KY Dept. for Surface Mining Reclaimation and Enforcement.
Other survivors include his children, Michael Brandenburg and Cynthia (Dennis)
McAlister, Lexington; a brother, Owen Brandenburg and two sisters, Billie Glass
and Barbara Keam; and three grandchildren, Erin and Matthew McAlister and
Kristina Pless Brandenburg. Funeral, Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., Milward-Broadway with
burial following at Lexington Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dennis and
Matthew McAlister, M.J., Brian, and Michael O’Day, and Owen Brandenburg.
