Eugene "Gene" Talmadge Fortson, age 76, of
Fairfield Glade, passed away Feb. 11, 2011. A memorial service will be held on
Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church,
with Fr. John Dowling officiating and Msgr. Philip Thoni officiating. Mr.
Forston was born on Aug. 28, 1934, in Royston, GA, the son of Zed D. and Maude
Payne Fortson. He retired as a Colonel in the United States Air Force after 32
years of service. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church in Fairfield Glade, the Knights of Columbus and the Benevolent &
Protective Order of Elks. He enjoyed golf, traveling the world and being with
his family. He was a very loving, caring man who will be missed by all who knew
him. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Chynoweth Fortson of Fairfield Glade;
daughters, Christina Falls and husband Steve of Marietta, GA, and Carol Fortson
of Fairfield Glade; step-daughter, Debora Marsh and husband Steve of Dexter, MI,
Dionne Wetzel and husband Joseph of Hudsonville, MI and Darice Hoffmann and
husband James of Alburtis, PA; step-sons, David Lulko of Oklahoma City, OK and
Donald Lulko and wife Darla of Milford, MI; brother, Charles Fortson and wife
Doris of Elberton, GA; sister, Clara Mae Potts and husband Jim of Toccoa, GA; 15
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his first wife, Faith Parham Fortson; brothers, Johnny
Fortson and Walter Fortson; and sister, Louise Ashworth. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Inc. in his
