Robert D. “Mike” Larkin, age 80, of Hillsboro,
died Sunday morning, September 11, 2005 at his residence. He was born on August 3, 1925, in Hillsboro, the son of the
late Clarence S. “Mike” and Frances (Puckett) Larkin. He was a member of the Hillsboro
First United
Methodist Church
and attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Hillsboro.
He was a 1949 graduate of Miami
University, and was a
U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, and remained
active in the Air Force Reserve, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel
before his full retirement in 1984. He
was a member of the
Buckeye Wing Association.
Mike was an avid golfer, and was very proud to be the fifth generation
in his family to live on the Larkin Family Farm. On November 7, 1993, he married his wife Peggy,
in McMinnville, Tennessee, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Sue
(Art) Honeycutt of Leesburg, and Lisa (Dann) Wharton
of Hillsboro, a step-son, Eric Elwell of Columbus, a
sister Harriett Hagley of Chillicothe, an aunt
Virginia Norvell of Wilmington, and three
grandchildren, Ryan Wharton of Cincinnati, Drew Wharton of Hillsboro and Josh
Honeycutt of Leesburg. In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Larkin in May,
1987. Funeral services for Mr. Larkin
will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2005 at the Hillsboro First
United Methodist
Church. Pastor Chuck Shonkwiler,
Pastor John Fitzgerald and Rev. Charles Wilson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at
the Hightop
Cemetery in
Samantha. Friends may call from 4:00
until 8:00 pm. on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Turner & Son Funeral
Home in Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Hillsboro First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 133 East.
