Mark
Smith Jr., 81, of Frankfort, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 2 p.m., in
Westmoreland Place, Chillicothe. He was born on October 30, 1927 in Good Hope to
the late Mark and Helen Cokonougher Smith. On July 26, 1952 he married the
former Jane E. Carter who preceded him in death on April 21, 1995.
Surviving are their children; Marsha (Larry) Glandon,
of Chillicothe, Marilyn (Duane) Bakenhaster, of Frankfort, Mark (Terri) Smith,
of Marion, IN, Mike (Laura) Smith, of Frankfort, grandchildren; Nikki Crabtree,
Bethany Austin, Erin Schneider, Sara K. Smith, Tom Hughes, David, Hannah,
Daniel, Elizabeth Bakenhaster, great-grandchildren; Thomas Hughes III, Elijah
David, Jonah, Abbey Crabtree, Halle, Brady Austin, Sloan Schneider, sisters;
Helen Leaverton, of Greenfield, Roberta Karnes, of Rainsboro, brother; John
Smith, of Tarpon Springs FL. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Arnold
and Lloyd Smith.
Mark was 1945 graduate of Buckskin High School. He was
a member of the First Wesleyan Church, Chillicothe and a former member of the
Greenfield American Legion. Mark served in the United States Air Force during
World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He retired as Chief
Senior Master Sergeant and was Chief Foreman at Rickenbacker Air Base, Columbus.
Funeral service will be held Monday, November 24, 2008
at 10:30 a.m. in the Ebright Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Fox officiating. Burial
will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Military honors will be accorded
by the Frankfort American Legion Post 483. Friends may call at the funeral home
on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested
to the First Wesleyan Church Building Fund, PO Box 10, Chillicothe OH 45601.
